Hair Lamination in Dubai: What It Is and Why March14 Clients Keep Booking It

Hair lamination in Dubai has quietly become one of the most requested treatments at the March14 Beauty Residence Hair Studio, and for a reason that has little to do with trends. It is the treatment clients book when the hair is healthy enough, coloured well enough and cut well enough, and still refuses to look finished by the time they reach the car park.

What Is Hair Lamination?

Lamination works on the outside of the hair rather than inside it. A conditioning formula is worked through the lengths, where it settles into the cuticle, the overlapping outer layer of each strand, and seals it flat under a fine protective film.

That film does three things at once. It closes the gaps that make hair feel rough, it stops moisture from swelling the strand and lifting frizz, and it turns a surface that was scattering light into one that reflects it. Hair looks glossier, feels smoother and behaves better in the mirror and in photographs, without a single change to its internal structure.

That last point matters. Lamination does not break and rebuild the bonds inside the hair the way a chemical straightening service does. It conditions and coats. The hair keeps its own texture, movement and curl pattern, just in a smoother, shinier, more cooperative version of itself.

Before and After: What Lamination Actually Changes

The clearest way to understand the treatment is to look at the same head of hair from the same angle, before and after.

Before: dry, roughened hair with the cuticle lifted and light scattering in every direction

In the before image the surface is doing all the damage. The lengths are dry and porous, the ends separate into frizz rather than falling as one line, and because the cuticle is raised the hair reads as flat and matte even under a bright salon light.

After: the same hair, sealed and smoothed, with light reflecting off it in one direction

After lamination, nothing about the hair's length, cut or colour has changed. What has changed is the surface. The lengths sit together, the frizz has flattened into the body of the hair, and the tone looks richer simply because reflected light makes colour read as more saturated.

Hair Lamination, Keratin and Gloss: The Difference

These three sit next to each other on most salon menus in Dubai and get confused constantly.

A keratin or straightening treatment changes how the hair behaves at a structural level, relaxing texture and cutting drying time for months at a time. It is the heaviest intervention of the three.

A gloss is about tone and shine. March14's own Insta Shine treatment sits here, built specifically to make hair reflect light rather than scatter it.

Lamination sits between them. It is not a colour service and it is not a structural one. It is a conditioning seal, which is why it suits clients who like their texture and simply want it smoother, glossier and easier to manage between appointments.

Who Hair Lamination Suits

Dubai is unusually hard on hair. Sun, salt water, chlorine, hard water and permanent air conditioning all work on the cuticle in the same direction, roughening it until hair looks dull no matter how good the cut underneath is.

Lamination tends to be the right answer for hair that has gone dull or frizzy from that exposure, for coloured hair that needs its tone to look richer for longer, for fine hair that wants body and shine without weight, and for anyone whose blow dry never quite survives the walk from the salon to the street.

It is also popular before weddings, shoots and events, where hair has to hold up under flash photography, which is far less forgiving of a rough cuticle than daylight is.

How Long It Lasts

A lamination is not permanent, and it is not meant to be. The film wears away gradually over several weeks rather than growing out in a line, so hair returns slowly to its natural state instead of dropping off a cliff. How long that takes depends on hair type, how often it is washed and what it is washed with.

Aftercare decides most of it. Sulphate free washing and a professional home routine, built at March14 through the Kérastase Haircare Lab, will hold the result noticeably longer than a supermarket shampoo will.

Why March14 for Hair Lamination in Dubai

March14 Beauty Residence was not built as a neighbourhood beauty salon. It was built by founder Ruby Barreau out of years spent backstage, inside the ateliers and fashion environments surrounding some of the world's most recognised celebrities, where hair has to perform under studio lighting with no room for approximation. The Hair Studio was built to that standard, and it carries the brand's French heritage through its professional relationships with L'Oréal Professionnel and Kérastase.

Which formula a client leaves with is decided by the March14 Chart of Excellence, the principle that no single system is right for everybody. Fine hair, coarse hair, freshly lightened hair and virgin hair all take a lamination differently, so the Hair Studio works across carefully selected professional systems rather than applying one formula to every head in the room.

The Hair Studio is led by celebrity hairdresser and international L'Oréal Professionnel colourist Essa Makhoul, whose career was built in fashion and editorial hair, where shine is not a finishing touch but the entire brief.
